Our Humble Beginnings

It all started in 2005 when our founder, Kenji Tanaka, grew frustrated with the lack of convenient yet healthy meal options. As a busy working dad, he struggled to cook nutritious dinners for his family after long days at the office. Most instant meals on the market at the time were high in fat, salt, and preservatives. Kenji knew there had to be a better way.

After months of experimenting in his home kitchen, he finally perfected a method for creating quick-cooking noodles that were low in calories but still full of flavor. The key was using high-quality ingredients like buckwheat and mung bean vermicelli. After cooking up batch after batch of his creations for friends and family, he knew he was onto something big.

In 2007, Kenji officially launched Yumsu® Noodles with four varieties of instant ramen. Word spread quickly about these tasty new noodles that were ready in just 3 minutes. Before he knew it, Kenji was struggling to keep up with demand!

Growth & Expansion

Over the next few years, the business steadily grew. More noodle flavors were added along with new products like instant rice and konjac noodles. In 2010, we opened our first manufacturing facility to increase production.

By 2015, Yumsu® Noodles expanded internationally with exports to over 15 countries. We also widened our product range to include chili oil, sauces, and soup bases. However, our core focus remained on quick, healthy meals.

In 2018, we opened our state-of-the-art R&D center to innovate new products and flavors. Our team of chefs and nutritionists work tirelessly to create nutritious meals that don’t compromise on taste.

Today, Yumsu® Noodles offers over 50 products that are sold in major supermarkets worldwide. Yet we remain a family-owned business passionate about helping busy people eat healthy.

Kenji Tanaka, Founder

After moving from Japan to America in the 1990s, Kenji Tanaka grew frustrated with the lack of quick, nutritious meal options. As a busy professional with three young kids, he struggled to put home-cooked dinners on the table every night. Pre-packaged meals were convenient but often loaded with sodium, preservatives, and mystery ingredients.

Cooking from scratch took too much time for Kenji’s hectic schedule. Yet fast food and takeout weren’t nutritionally balanced for growing kids. He was determined to find a better solution – meals his whole family could enjoy that were fast, affordable, and healthy.

After much trial and error testing recipes in his home kitchen, Kenji perfected a method for creating delicious instant noodles that cooked up in just minutes. The key was using quality whole food ingredients like buckwheat flour instead of refined wheat.

In 2007, Kenji officially launched Yumsu® Noodles to bring his noodle creations from his kitchen to yours. Now as a dad of five, he remains passionate about offering convenient nutrition to busy families. Kenji still oversees recipe development, always looking for ways to innovate healthy, home-cooked flavor.
